Clearing your cache and cookies to solve browsing issues

A browser cache takes elements from the websites you visit and saves them in a database, resulting in faster page load times and a more robust user experience the next time you go to a website you’ve been to before. The cache remembers parts of pages, like images, to help them open faster during your next visit. Also, many sites force tracking cookies onto your browser to better cater ads to your interests. Over time these harmless bits of data can pile up in your browser's cache.

The See Tickets Design team often recommends users of the sites we build to clear their cache so they see the most recent code updates we’ve added. Here is a straightforward approach to clearing your cache on four major browsers: Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

Note: You may be using a browser that is not updated. Please ensure your browser is up to date, also.

Safari

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

  1. Go to Settings > Safari
  2. Tap Clear History and Website Data

Mac

  1. Open the Safari app on your Mac
  2. Choose History > Clear History
  3. Choose how far back you want your browsing history cleared (all history)
  4. Click Clear History

Chrome

Desktop

  1. Any Desktop
  2. On your computer, open Chrome
  3. At the top right, click the 3 vertical dots
  4. Select More Tools > Clear Browsing Data…
  5. Choose a time range (to delete everything, select all time)
  6. Checkmark Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, Cached images and files
  7. Click Clear data

Android

  1. Open the Chrome app
  2. At the top right, tap the More icon
  3. Tap History > Clear browsing data
  4. Choose a time range (all time)
  5. Checkmark Cookies and site data and Cached images and files
  6. Tap Clear Data

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the Chrome app
  2. At the bottom right, tap the 3 vertical dots
  3. Tap History > Clear browsing data

Firefox

Desktop

  1. Open Firefox
  2. At the top right, click on the 3 line menu icon
  3. Click History > Clear Recent History
  4. Next to Time range to clear, choose Everything from the drop-down menu
  5. Under History, checkmark Cache in the items list (make sure other items you want to keep are not selected)
  6. Click the OK button

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Firefox on your mobile device
  2. At the bottom right, tap on the 3 line menu icon > History
  3. Tap on the clock icon
  4. Tap the garbage icon in the bottom left
  5. From the bottom menu, tap Everything

Android

  1. Open Firefox on your mobile device
  2. Tap on the 3 line menu icon at the top right corner > Settings
  3. On older Android devices you’ll have to press the hardware menu key and then tap More > Settings
  4. In the settings screen > Privacy & Security
  5. Select Clear private data
  6. Select Cookies & active logins and Cache for deletion
  7. Once those have been selected > Clear data
  8. Delete your specific site from Firefox’s history on Mobile
  9. If you don’t want to clear all of Firefox’s browsing history, you can simply delete a single website from it’s history. In the listing of recently visited sites, find the page you want to delete, and then slide it to the left. When you slide the Page in the history to the left, it will reveal a red Delete button. Tap it to remove that single page from Firefox’s history.

Microsoft Edge

Desktop

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Select the 3 dots icon on the top right corner of the browser
  3. Go to Settings > Privacy & services
  4. Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear
  5. Checkmark Cached images and files and Cookies and other site data
  6. Select Clear

Mobile

  1. Open Microsoft Edge on your device
  2. Tap the 3 dots icon for Menu > Settings
  3. Under the Settings menu > Privacy and Security
  4. Tap Clear browsing data
  5. Enable the checkbox for Browser history
  6. Tap Clear
